SONJA BEN & R.rotx - SATE (2025)
At B-Murals, research is being conducted on materials commonly used in industrial contexts, with the aim of creating supports and exhibition systems for contemporary art. The goal is to produce various objects that will serve as the basis for artworks, designing each piece for a specific technique and considering its inherent qualities throughout the development process.
In parallel, the team explores different approaches to exhibition within museum spaces, experimenting with unconventional materials in this field and challenging the traditional methods associated with art presentation.
Sonja Ben i R-rotx desenvolupen a B-Murals una investigació sobre els materials habitualment utilitzats en contextos industrials, amb la finalitat de crear suports i sistemes d’exhibició per a l’art contemporani. L’objectiu és produir diversos objectes que serveixin com a base per a obres artístiques, dissenyant cada peça per a una tècnica específica i tenint en compte la seva naturalesa al llarg de tot el procés de desenvolupament.
Paral·lelament, profunditze en les formes d’exhibició dins els espais museístics, experimentant amb materials poc convencionals en aquest àmbit i desafiant els usos tradicionals associats a la presentació de l’obra d’art.

Sonja Ben i R.rotx han investigat l’ús de materials d’origen industrial aplicats a la creació de nous suports en l’art contemporani. A partir d’aquesta exploració, han desenvolupat una sèrie de peces que evoquen fragments de murs, traslladant la textura i la presència arquitectònica a l’àmbit artístic d’estudi. Cada suport es presenta de manera individual amb un dibuix a la seva superfície, reforçant el joc entre l’immediat i el sòlid, l’espontani i allò construït.
Aquests «murs» estableixen un diàleg amb l’espai expositiu i amb l’espectador, convidant-lo a reflexionar sobre la manera com experimentem l’entorn urbà i els processos de transformació que l’afecten. El treball de Sonja Ben i R.rotx subratlla així l’inevitable pes de l’arquitectura i, alhora, la lleugeresa del traç i la creativitat, que emergeixen com a contrapunt poètic dins d’un escenari de contínua evolució.
SATE is the artistic research project by Sonja Ben and R.rotx, developed during their B-Murals Residency.
Through this project, the two artists have explored the use of industrially sourced materials to create new supports in contemporary art. Building on this research, they have developed a series of pieces that evoke fragments of walls, translating the texture and architectural presence into a studio-based artistic context. Each support is presented individually, featuring a drawing on its surface, thus emphasizing the interplay between immediacy and solidity, spontaneity and construction.
These “walls” engage in dialogue with both the exhibition space and the viewer, inviting reflection on how we experience urban environments and the processes that transform them. The work of Sonja Ben and R.rotx thus underscores the inescapable weight of architecture while highlighting the lightness of gesture and creativity—a poetic counterpoint within a continuously evolving landscape.
