Xavier Almeida is the artist selected for the third block of B-Murals residencies in 2024!
Starting September 19, he will develop his artistic research project, in which he will work with the community and the territory through muralism and comics,
Xavier Almeida’s work intends to interrogate contemporaneity from the perspective of unsubordinated and defiant bodies: subject bodies and not subjected bodies. His work addresses this reinvention, presenting a fictional speculation of the trans-species, in which they introduce alien characters, viruses, bacterias, machines under strain and naturalistic deconstruction of landscape. He presents, in this way, a post-human sequence of motifs and stories, understood here as being as the state of becoming: bodies struggling against the automated annihilation imposed by capitalism. The characters and landscapes they construct, heirs of the plasticity of comics, reveal a transformation that is not based on biotechnological improvements, but on an acceptance of nature and the natural as a transforming engine.
La obra de Xavier Almeida pretende interrogar la contemporaneidad desde la perspectiva de los cuerpos no subordinados y desafiantes: cuerpos sujetos y cuerpos no sometidos. Su obra aborda esta reinvención, presentando una especulación ficticia de las transespecies, en la que introducen personajes alienígenas, virus, bacterias, máquinas bajo tensión y una deconstrucción naturalista del paisaje. Presenta, de esta manera, una secuencia posthumana de motivos e historias, entendidas aquí como el ser como estado de devenir: cuerpos que luchan contra la aniquilación automatizada impuesta por el capitalismo. Los personajes y paisajes que construyen, herederos de la plasticidad del cómic, revelan una transformación que no se basa en mejoras biotecnológicas, sino en una aceptación de la naturaleza y de lo natural como motor transformador.
